Julie Newmar

As an eleventh generation American and a Mayflower descendent, Julie Newmar has beauty, brains and a charming sense of humor. She is best known for her 13-episode recurring role on the 1960s TV series Batman as the "purrfect" villainess, Catwoman. Her sense of humor and physicality made her this show’s most popular villain. Newmar was born Julie Chalene Newmeyer in Los Angeles, California, the eldest of three children. Her mother, Helen Jesmer, was a Ziegfeld Follies dancer; her father, Donald Newmeyer, was a teacher, real estate investor and a former pro football tackle for the Los Angeles Buccaneers. From an early age, Julie studied classical piano, ballet, and every form of dance. She graduated from John Marshall High School at 15, then spending a year in Europe with her mother and brother John. She attended UCLA for only six weeks, switching to Universal Studios as choreographer, teacher, and dance double all before 18. For her filmography please click here.
