John Coppinger
An English artist, sculptor, poet and actor, best known as the sculptor of Jabba the Hutt; one of the most popular space creature and vile gangsters in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. Jabba was also the largest and most expensive animatronics ever built for a movie. Coopinger was a Jabba puppeteer in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi as well as playing Graxol Kelvyyn and Wookie Senator Yarua in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, which was his first time in a full costume. Born in England, he attended Maidstone Art College, then went on to study sculpture at St.Martins school of art in London. After college he worked for 8 years as a scientific model-maker at London’s' Natural History Museum experimenting with new materials and methods. Coppinger also worked on some other wellknown movies like Harry Potter, the Fifth Element and Return to Oz.
