Burt Ward

An American television actor and activist best known for his work as Robin, the "Boy Wonder", in the 1960s television series, Batman.  At the age of 19, he auditioned for the part of Robin, without having ever read a Batman comic book and without any professional acting experience at all.   The series lasted three seasons, for a total of 120 episodes.   In 1994, Burt Ward put aside the acting business and he and his wife, founded a charitable organization called Gentle Giants Rescue and Adoptions, Inc., which rescues giant breed dogs.  More than 11,600 giant breed dogs and some smaller breed dogs have been rescued and adopted into safe, loving homes during the last 15 years by the Wards.  Mr. Ward has stated in the news section on his website that "he will no longer be doing personal appearances in order to concentrate his time on family and his canine rescue organization".
